How does licencing work?

How does licencing work?

Form version 3.1.0.7 a new method of licencing was introduced that is simpler and faster for the user .  When you first run Outlook with Academic Calendar installed the welcome screen gives you the option to request a licence straight away.  If you or your school have already paid for a licence then click this button.  If you just want to evaluate you can click the Request licence button on the toolbar whenever you are ready.

When you click the button Academic Calendar will then contact the company database over the internet and check your email address against its records.  It will store the results in the computer's registry and will remind you when the licence is nearing its expiry date.

The previous method relied on licence files saved in the My Documents folder and this could cause problems in some network setups.  Existing licence files will still be recognised.

What if I do not use Outlook for email?

When you first click the Request licence button.  Academic  Calendar gets you email address by looking at the messages in your inbox.  If it does not find any it will ask you to enter it.  It checks this email address against our records database.  If it tries to contact the database over the internet and fails it will give you the option of sending an email and will prepare one for you ready to send.  If you use some other email program just cut and paste the message and send it to us with that.  We will send back a licence file which should be saved to the My Documents  folder.  When Academic Calendar finds this it will store the details in the computer's registry.

How can I tell whether  I am licenced to use Academic Calendar?

On the Academic Calendar toolbar is a button with an icon of a key (or for Outlook 2010 an icon of a key and a padlock on the Ribbon tab).  This button is to request a licence but it is hidden once the software is licenced.

Also if you click the About  button you are shown a screen with system information, including the current licence status.
