Trouble shoot installing
If you are having trouble with installing Academic Calendar here is
a list of points to check.
Are you running Outlook? Are you sure you
are using Outlook rather than Outlook Express? Academic Calendar does not
work with Outlook Express
Is Academic Calendar installed properly?
Go to Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs. If Academic Calendar
has been installed properly it will be listed there. Check that there is
only one entry with Academic Calendar in its name. If there are
more than one they will conflict. Uninstall them all and install the latest version.
Is Crystal Reports installed properly?
Academic Calendar uses a component called Crystal Reports for its printing and
print preview features. It must be installed before Academic Calendar.
Go to Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs. If Crystal Reports
Basic Runtime for Visual Studio 2008 has been installed properly it will be
listed there. If it is not there go to
www.outlook-academic.com/ACal/Download.aspx where you can download it.
Is the Microsoft .NET Framework installed?
The Microsoft .NET Framework is installed on most computers nowadays but if
you are running an older machine it is worth checking. Go to Control Panel > Add
or Remove Programs . If Microsoft .NET Framwork
2.0 is not on the list of currently installed programs you need to
install it. Go to
www.outlook-academic.com/ACal/Download.aspx where you can download it.
If, when you first try to install Academic Calendar on a computer without .NET
2.0 you will get a message asking if you want to install it.
Unfortunately, if you say Yes you are taken by Microsoft to a page where the NET
4.0 version is offered rather than NET 2.0. Use the link on the Academic
Calendar web site Download page instead.
Are you running the latest version? It may
be that the problem you have had has been fixed in the latest version of
Academic Calendar. You can see which version you are running by clicking the
left had button on the Academic Calendar toolbar. If you are running
Outlook 2010 it is the right had button on the Academic Calendar ribbon tab.
You can see the version number of the latest version on
www.outlook-academic.com/ACal/Download.aspx
Was there an error mentioning secman?
One of the components Academic Calendar uses is called
secman and this should be automatically installed and registered as part of
the normal installation process. There have been cases where this
did not happen with the result that an error occurs when Academic Calendar
tries to use it. You can rectify this by downloading and installing secman
separately. On the Academic Calendar web site download
page there is a link at the bottom for Outlook Security Manager (secman).
Download and install this. You will need admin privileges on the computer.
Has Academic Calendar been disabled?
If everything
indicates that Academic Calendar has been successfully installed but it does not
appear when you start Outlook check to see whether Outlook has disabled it.
The way you can fix this depends on the version of Outlook you are using.
Outlook 2010
File > Options > Add-Ins
At the bottom of the form is a drop-down .
Change it from Manage COM Add-ins to Manage Disabled items and click
Go. If your add-in has been
disabled it will be on the list and you will be able to click the Enable
button to re-activate it.
Outlook 2007
Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins
At the bottom of the form is a drop-down .
Change it from Manage COM Add-ins to Manage Disabled items and click
Go. If your add-in has been
disabled it will be on the list and you will be able to click the Enable
button to re-activate it.
Outlook 2003
Click Help on the main menu then About Microsoft Outlook.
At the bottom right of the form I a button for Disabled Items. Click it.
If your add-in has been disabled it will be on the list and you will be able
to click the Enable button to re-activate it.
Did Outlook load Academic Calendar correctly?
If
Academic Calendar seemed to install correctly but does not show up in Outlook
something may have prevented it from loading. In you My Documents folder (just Documents on Windows Vista and Windows 7) you
will find a folder called Add-in Express. In it will be one or two log files called
adxloader.log and adxRegistrator.log (though the .log part may be hidden depending on your computer's
settings). You can send these to us as email attachments to
support@greenhillsoftware.co.uk.
They may help us identify any loading problems.
Is the Windows Region information
correct?
In some
circumstances, in versions before 3.1.3.0, when the user did not have the Windows Control Panel Regional Settings
set to UK the Add-in has failed to register. Academic Calendar installed runs
and reports success but when Outlook is launched Academic Calendar is nowhere
to be seen. The AdxRegistrator.log file in My Documents\Add-in Express containers
references "String was not revognized as a vaild datetime". To fix this uninstall
Academic Calendar,
then
go
to Control Panel and select Region and Language and set Format to EnglEnglish(United
Kingdom).
Do you get an error if you try to uninstall
This probably means that the install files have been corrupted in
some way. Microsoft provides a special tool to uninstall in these
circumstances. It is at
